Mythic+ Explained

Keystones, timers, scaling, and rating — what Mythic+ actually is before your first key goes in.

Mythic+ is WoW's endlessly scalable dungeon mode: the same dungeons you know, with a keystone that sets how hard they are and a timer that sets the pace. It is the game's most repeatable group content — and its reputation for difficulty is mostly about preparation, not reflexes.

How a key works

  • A keystone names a dungeon and a level. Put it in the pedestal at the dungeon start, and the dungeon runs at that difficulty.
  • Beat the timer and the key upgrades to a higher level — one, two, or three levels depending on how fast you finished.
  • Finish over time and the key still completes but downgrades. Abandoning the run abandons the key.

What scales

Each level increases enemy health and damage. Certain levels add modifiers — seasonal or weekly twists that change how you handle specific enemies or mechanics. The jump from normal dungeons to low keys is gentle; the ramp gets real a few levels in.

Rating

Completing keys earns a rating that tracks your best timed runs per dungeon. It is a useful personal progress marker and the currency of group-finder invites — but it is a record, not a verdict. Ratings reset each season and mean nothing about the person holding them.

What groups actually want

A key at low level expects the same things a dungeon does: follow the tank, kick casts, do not die to visible mechanics. The only new rules are the clock and a smaller margin for sloppiness.
