Nameplates and Why They Matter

Enemy nameplates as an information system — casts, threat, and target awareness at a glance.

Nameplates — the health bars floating over enemies — are a radar display most players leave on factory settings. Tuned well, they answer the questions dungeons ask constantly: which enemies are casting, which are on me, and which one matters right now.

What a good nameplate shows

  • Cast bars: the single most important upgrade — see dangerous casts without targeting the caster.
  • Threat state: tanks need to see at a glance which enemies have slipped off them.
  • Your current target: a clear highlight so you never lose track in a pack.
  • Debuffs you care about: your damage-over-time effects, important debuffs, kick targets.

The standard upgrade

Plater is the community standard nameplate addon — install it, pick a widely-used profile from Wago, and adjust. The default nameplates are usable; a tuned set is a different game.

Keep it readable

  • Too much information on the bar is worse than too little — casts and threat first, decoration never.
  • Scale and stacking matter more than style: overlapping unreadable plates help nobody.
  • Test in a real dungeon, not on a target dummy — nameplates earn their keep in chaos.
