Your Warband is Blizzard's name for 'your whole account working together'. If you left when every character was an island, this is the single biggest quality-of-life change to come back to.
Alts are dramatically cheaper to maintain. Progress on your main frequently unlocks things for everyone, and leveling a second character no longer means redoing every system from zero.
Character power is still per-character: gear, levels, and most progression grinds must be done on each character. The Warband removes duplication, not the game.
Specifics shift every expansion — the account-wide list grows each major patch, so check current details on Wowhead when a new season starts.
