The Great Vault and Weekly Progression

How weekly endgame rewards work — earning Vault choices, and the calm way to gear up over a season.

Modern WoW gearing is built around a weekly rhythm rather than a daily grind. The Great Vault — in the bank area of the current expansion's capital city — is where that rhythm pays out.

How it works

Playing raid, dungeon, and world content during the week fills Vault slots. Each activity you complete enough of unlocks a reward choice. When the week resets, you open the Vault and pick one item from what you earned.

  • More activity unlocks more choices, but you still only take one item — the first few slots are the highest value.
  • Choices you earned never expire; there is no penalty for a quiet week beyond fewer options next reset.
  • The item level of choices scales with the difficulty of the content that earned them.

How to think about rewards

Pick the slot that replaces your weakest gear first, and prefer pieces for slots you upgrade slowly — weapons and trinkets are usually the most valuable. When everything is a sidegrade, the Vault also offers a currency alternative so a week is never wasted.

The bigger weekly loop

Endgame progression layers on top of this: dungeon keys, raid lockouts, upgrade currencies, and crafted gear all move on the same weekly cadence. You do not need to do everything — pick the activities you enjoy and the Vault keeps rewarding them.

Avoid the traps

  • Do not burn out in week one. The system is designed for steady weeks, not sprint weekends.
  • Exact reward levels change with every season — check the current season's numbers on Wowhead rather than memorizing thresholds.
