What can be dispelled, what cannot, and why timing beats reflexes.

A dispel removes an enemy debuff from a friendly player — magic, curses, poisons, or diseases, depending on your class. Every healer can remove some types; none can remove all of them.

Know your cleanse

  • Check which debuff types your spec can remove — the spell tooltip says so plainly.
  • Debuffs you cannot dispel show up too; learning which ones you are powerless against tells you when to just heal through it.
  • Some debuffs are designed not to be dispelled at all — usually they carry a special icon or the dungeon journal says so.

Timing beats reflexes

Instant-dispelling everything is a trap. Some debuffs explode, spread, or reposition something when removed — the dungeon journal will warn you. Dispelling a 'do not dispel yet' debuff is worse than letting it tick. When in doubt on a new mechanic, wait a beat and watch what it does.

Prioritize the dangerous ones

  • Debuffs that stun, silence, or deal heavy damage dispel immediately.
  • Small damage-over-time debuffs can often be out-healed — save the dispel cooldown for the nasty ones.
  • If two people have a debuff, dispel the one who cannot handle it — squishier target first.
