Utility Matters

Interrupts, stops, dispels, and defensives — the buttons that make you worth inviting beyond your damage.

UtilityInterruptsDefensives

Two DPS with identical damage are not identical to a group. The one who interrupts, stops casts, and survives mechanics is the one who gets invited back.

The kit most DPS forget they have

  • Interrupts stop enemy casts — the single highest-value non-damage button in dungeon content.
  • Stops — stuns, knockbacks, incapacitates — interrupt casts your kick cannot or reset a target that already resumed casting.
  • Dispels and purges remove buffs from enemies or debuffs from friends; many specs carry one.
  • Defensives and self-heals convert healer attention into kill speed.

Utility is damage, delayed

An interrupted cast is damage nobody has to heal and a cast the enemy does not get. A stunned caster is a stunned caster. Groups notice — not on the damage meter, but on the 'would I play with them again' meter, which matters more.

Put utility on real keybinds

If your interrupt requires a hunt through the spellbook mid-fight, it will not happen. Bind it somewhere your fingers already live. Same for your defensive — the difference between a good and an average DPS is usually which of these two buttons they press.
