Warcraft Logs is a site where raid combat gets uploaded and replayed — every cast, death, and mechanic preserved for review. Used well, it is the best learning tool in the game. Used badly, it is a scoreboard that teaches nothing.

What a log contains

  • Full damage and healing breakdowns — who hit what, when, and for how much.
  • Deaths with timelines: what killed each player and in what order.
  • Damage taken by ability — the honest record of who stood in what.
  • Interrupts, dispels, and cooldown usage — the invisible contributions.

Parses need context

A 'parse' compares your performance to other players of your spec at your item level. It measures output, not judgment: it does not know you handled every soak or that you held cooldowns for the burn phase. Treat parses as a diagnostic, not a rank — grey parses with perfect mechanics beat orange ones held together by the healers.

How to actually use it

  • Look at deaths first — what killed people is the fastest path to a kill.
  • Compare a good pull to a bad pull of the same fight; the difference is usually two or three things.
  • Check your own casts against a high-performing player of your spec — what are they pressing that you are not?
